Community and Economic Development Director

About the Position

The City of Waupaca (pop. 6,351) is recruiting for the position of Community and Economic Development Director, responsible for leading the city’s planning, zoning, building, economic development, and community growth initiatives. This includes managing a team of professionals within the department, guiding economic strategies, overseeing planning efforts, administering zoning codes, supervising building inspectors/compliance officers, and ensuring the effective execution of community development policies and projects. The Director will work to promote sustainable growth, attract investment, and enhance the quality of life for all residents while fostering strong relationships between city departments, local businesses, developers, and the community. This position will assist constituents in working through the needed approvals to meet their project goals.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the Community and Economic Development Director role is a dynamic leader with a proven track record in city planning, zoning, economic development, and community growth initiatives. This individual will be a visionary thinker capable of driving sustainable growth while balancing the needs of the community and stakeholders.

Full Salary Range: $68,520-$88,520

Excellent benefits package includes:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in planning, public administration, or closely related field of study.

  • 3-5 years of experience in professional planning or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

    • Supervisory experience is preferred.
